Cultural Events

The Art, Culture & Languages Department of Govt. of NCT of Delhi is working for propagation, promotion and development of languages, literature, art and culture as an integral part of composite culture of NCT of Delhi. The Art, Culture & Language Department organizes Academic, Literary as well as cultural activities like Music & Dance Programs, Seminars, Symposiums, Poet Meets, Plays and Publications etc. 

These activities are carried out through Sahitya Kala Parishad (SKP), various Language Academies and Dr. Goswami Girdhari Lal Shastri Prachya Vidhya Prathisthanam (Dr.G.G.L.S.P.V.P).  Besides above, the Department of Archives and Department of Archaeology are also under the administrative control of the Art, Culture & Languages Department. 

  1. Sahitya Kala Parishad is the premier cultural wing for music, dance, drama, and fine arts. It focuses on making Delhi a global cultural destination through large-scale public engagement. Major events / programmes organised by Sahitya Kala Parishad are Thumri Festival, Bhakti Sangeet Utsav, Yuva Natya Samaroh, Hasya Rang Utsav, Bhartendu Natya Utsav, Vama exhibition, Senior Artists Camp etc.

  2. Sahitya Kala Parishad also offers scholarships to 60 young artists and conducts summer workshops in 40 government schools to nurture talent at the student level.

  3. Urdu Academy focuses on the promotion of Urdu language through education, research, and high-profile cultural festivals. It also publishes the monthly literary journal Aiwan-e-Urdu (recognized by UGC-CARE) and Umang for children. 

  4. Urdu Academy organizes Jashn-e-Urdu, a massive four-day festival at locations like Sunder Nursery, featuring Ghazals, Qawwali, and Dastaan Goi.

  5. It also deploys Urdu teachers to government schools and offers online and offline Urdu learning classes for non-Urdu speakers. It also provides monthly financial assistance to elderly and needy writers, poets, and journalists.

  6. Hindi Academy, dedicated to the development of Hindi literature and the preservation of its cultural significance in the NCR has organized 113 programs this year, including the Bal Utsav and Yamunotsav.

  7. Garhwali, Kumaoni, and Jaunsari Academy serves the cultural and linguistic needs of residents from the Uttarakhand region. It has organized celebrations for Igas Parv (Budhi Deepawali) and Uttarakhand Foundation Day. 

  8. Garhwali, Kumaoni, and Jaunsari Academy has also conducted a month-long folk dance and mask dance workshop across six Delhi schools. It is also preparing for the Sharad Mahotsav (Winter Festival) and the Uttaraini-Makaraini celebrations in early 2026. 

  9. Dr. Goswami Girdhari Lal Shastri Prachya Vidya Pratishthan conducts examination and issue certificates for Sanskrit education (Indology) for middle level being taught in Gurukuls. Pratishthan has also started Ph.d program in Mass Communication in Sanskrit Literature. 

  10. Sindhi Academy has been playing a catalytic role in the proliferation of the Sindhi literary and cultural activities - in the spheres of folk and traditional music, dance, seminars, symposia, short story, poetry, novel, literary criticism, theatre etc. 

  11. Maithili Bhojpuri Academy organises  seminars, lectures, symposia, discussions, reading and workshops.

  12. Delhi Sanskrit Academy organises  conferences, seminars, competitions, Sanskrit Sangeet Sandhya, “Sanskrit Utsav”, Sanskrit Vasant Utsav, Sanskrit Teachers workshop, Sanskrit Vyavharik study centre, Sanskrit Youth festival etc.

  13. Punjabi Academy organises  Republic Day Poets & Independence Day Poets' Meet, Punjabi Heritage Festival, Gurbani Sangeet Samagam, Baisakhi Mela etc. 

  14. Punjabi Regular Centers as well as Summer Centers for learning Punjabi, Workshops for Children Theatre and Workshops for Folk Dances are also operated by the Punjabi Academy.
